Top Mixologists Go Shaker to Shaker Bartenders Compete. Kids Win.
Neil Kopplin (Clyde Common), Evan Zimmerman ( Laurelhurst Market), Jacob Grier ( Carlyle) and Elizabeth Markham ( Beaker & Flask) are creating quite a stir. Don't miss your opportunity to decide who will be the next Iron Bartender! Each bartender will create their signature drink and you'll get to sample and vote for your favorite. Later in the evening, there will be an on-stage "Secret Ingredient" competition. Drew Carney from KGW will host and Lucy Brennan ( Mint), Karen Foley ( Imbibe Magazine) and Lee Medoff ( House Spirits Distillery) will decide who mixes it up best when the pressure is on.
Culinary expert sponsor Bon Appétit is making the hors d'oeuvres and you'll have the opportunity to win exciting raffle packages! Raffle tickets are $10 each, two for $15 or three for $25 and some of the featured items are a Sunriver vacation getaway, Nike women's apparel, a golf putter, Blazer tickets, kayaking lessons, lift tickets, backpacks, a night at the Jupiter Hotel, restaurant gift certificates, movie passes, spa and salon gift certificates... and more. Everyone who buys an event ticket and enters their name and info on the back will be entered into the drawing for a gift certificate to Paley's Place and tickets to a performance at Portland Playhouse theater. Sponsors of the event include Bon Appétit, House Spirits Distillery, Knowledge Universe, PacifiCorp, Faye & Lucille Stewart Foundation, and Weir's Cyclery. Thank You, "Season of Sharing" Friends! Strong community support made the 2009 holiday season extra special for our families. All ninety-one client families were "adopted" by individuals, families or businesses, which supplied the "needs and wants" identified by parents and children. Holiday food boxes from the Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division along with a complimentary turkey or ham allowed the families to celebrate with a special meal. The Peninsula Optimists Club offered free trees to the families that were gladly accepted. Heartfelt thanks were expressed by the families with a request that we pass their message of deep gratitude on to the donors. We would like to join the families in thanking the many supporters whose contributions made the holidays much brighter.

CRN & Foster Care Reduction Initiative Foster care placement in Oregon is one of the highest in the country. But if infants, toddlers and preschoolers can be safe at home with their family or safe with another permanent placement option, they'll have better futures. The Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), Oregon Commission on Children & Families and Casey Family Programs are working together in Multnomah County and throughout the state to safely and equitably reduce the number in foster care.
In support of this effort, and with the help of the Children's Levy, we've begun to serve children in foster care. Our emphasis on attachment, brain development and social-emotional well-being are relevant and significant for children separated from their parents. The need for nurturing, responsive and dependable relationships is paramount to the young child's sense of self, safety and security. Our investment in understanding early childhood trauma and the significance of early relationships has moved us toward serving this intensely vulnerable population.
Our services are flexible, meeting the needs of foster parents for respite and home visits. We also provide supervised visits to biological parents utilizing the Child Parent Psychotherapy model as a way heal the trauma of separation. The therapeutic classroom is a consistent and supportive environment that invites play, exploration and encourages children to reach developmental milestones. Our participation in the caseworker's plan reinforces steps towards reunification and stabilizes the parent-child relationship. We know that children in foster care have greater difficulties and far-reaching vulnerabilities as they enter school and later "age-out" of the system as young adults. We hope to change this projectile to one of greater hope.
With the new focus, we are also providing Early Childhood Mental Health/Trauma Assessments for children in the child welfare system and throughout the community who have experienced traumatic events or circumstances. Child Parent Psychotherapy and Trauma Assessments are now provided not only to North Portland where we're located, but to Northeast and East Portland, expanding our service area in these new realms of service.
