Diaper Drive Results...Mission Accomplished!

Sharing the results of our July/August "Diaper Drive with a Mission" is truly a pleasure!  Our original goal was 6,000 diapers, which would fulfill our needs through the end of the year.  Our loyal and dedicated donors let us know just how much they support our mission by donating diapers and cash  totaling 19,251 diapers!!  This means that for the next 18 months our diaper expenses are eliminated meaning more funding can be directed to our services.

And what a diverse group of supporters stepped up to "cover" our needs-individuals, families, church groups, service organizations and all types of businesses and corporations. Your incredible generosity reinforces just how dedicated you are to understanding the impact that we can make by working together. Please accept our deepest gratitude for all of you who helped make the diaper drive such a huge success!

A special thank you goes to the interns and employees of Moss Adams LLC Portland for contributing more than half of all diapers donated.

New Seasons Benefit Barbecue Successful on Many Levels

Three-year-old ClassOne of New Seasons Markets' favorite ways to support local non-profit organizations is by hosting weekend benefit barbecues. 100% of the money raised goes directly to the chosen organization and Children's Relief Nursery was selected to be part of the series in August, receiving $8,500 in proceeds!

Children's Relief Nursery provided 54 volunteers to lend a hand with the barbecue, which was held at all nine stores in the Portland area.  Equally important to raising funds was "raising friends" by reaching out and sharing our mission and really connecting with so many people.  From new volunteers to new donors the benefit barbecue was a huge success!

We want to thank our dedicated volunteers who gave up their weekend to help make a difference. For those of you who attended the event---thank you!  And last but not least a special thank you to all nine of the New Seasons Markets whose great staff helped us serve up more than 1,000 burgers!

Children's Relief Nursery and
Street Yoga Partnership

Street Yoga and Children's Relief Nursery will partner to provide the "Mindful Caregiver Program" to parents/caregivers receiving services from Children Relief Nursery.  This partnership is supported by a grant from the City of Portland  - Vision in Action.

Street Yoga's Mindful Caregiver Program brings tools of stress reduction, anger management, compassionate communication and long-term wellness to parents and caregivers grappling with cycles of abuse, extreme poverty, homelessness and/or involvement with foster care.  The program is based on the premise that children are the future of our society, and that in order for them to have successful futures, with economic and emotional stability, they need to first have safe homes and nurturing caregivers.

Workshops will be held for agency staff and for their parent/caregiver clients, with staff present to allow direct service staff to model and reinforce the learning with their clients. Each workshop will incorporate yoga and meditation to provide parents, caregivers and staff with tangible tools to increase overall wellness, decrease stress, and remain present for the people they serve.
